- As we celebrate Fathers Day, I have to give abundant praise & thanksgiving to my Heavenly Father for the faithful, God-fearing, fun, fabulous (yes yet flawed) fathers He’s been so good & gracious to put in my life- both my grandfathers, my own beloved father, my dear father-in-law & the love of my life, the father of our 3 boys!! All faithful, loving and committed to their wives, their children & first and foremost to God! It is and was this primary relationship with God as their Lord and Savior that made them the marvelous men that they are & were!! For that I am eternally grateful! God has set up the institution of marriage and the family as bedrock of society where love is poured out unconditionally, right & wrong according to God, the Creator & Designer of all, are diligently taught, and discipline is patiently & lovingly administered as a means of protection against the harm that awaits outside of His ways. I was blessed to be raised in a home where my dad loved my mom & us 3 girls, where we had family dinner & devotions regularly (a plaque above my dads chair read “As for me & my house, we will serve the Lord.”), he coached our sports teams, & prioritized quality time as family time. When I was in the market for a man (that sounds like I was seeking my MRS degree but really I was pursuing the path God had for me, pursuing a degree in nursing & Spanish to do foreign missions. It was fueled at an early age by my parents, a dentist & a nurse, who when to Central America on medical missions trips to meet the physical & Spiritual needs of the people there...& I wanted to do the same!), I remembering praying “Lord, I’m going to keep seeking You & the plans You have for my life. You’re going to have to bowl me over with him and meld the plans You have for us to use us better together!” I wanted a guy who could live without me but didn’t want to...that he was complete & secure & satisfied in his relationship with his Maker that he didn’t need me to fill that place that only God can fill, but our shared love for each other, the Lord and desire to serve Him together would be the cherry on top, not the main course but the dessert! And who doesn’t love dessert!😄 I found a man who loved God first and me deeply and honestly with His love. We shared a heart for youth & foreign missions. Now there was a lot that we didn’t share as well (that humanly I was wanted, they were “on my list”) and it made me question if he was the “one.”But after a brief break up (my fault🙈) & diligently praying for Gods direction, open-handedly committing our relationship to the Lord, I felt His peace that this man had all the most important qualities that I needed/wanted and that were of eternal value! And oh how that has proven true over the years, I couldn’t be more grateful...not because it’s all been easy, “sunshine & lollipops”, but because God has used the good, the hard and the ugly to grow and refine us in awesome ways into His likeness! I have learned SO much from this man and grown in huge ways through the love, grace & truth given to me in abundance by my brother in Christ! There’s no one I’d rather do life and serve our God with than him! Today I couldn’t be more grateful to God for His great gift of Dave to me as my husband, and to our 3 boys as their father! When we teach them about their amazing Heavenly Father, they have an amazing earthly example! 💞
So Happy Fathers Day, to the amazing man our boys get to call Dad! SO thankful for you & the godly example you give them as teach & model integrity, generosity, wisdom, humor, hard work, knowledge, love for life & the Lord & others! we ❤️ you! We had a great day together celebrating you...started with our traditional breakfast burritos at BurgerUSA (a gem of a dive!), True North highschool group at church, an afternoon at the beach to surf together (Party Waves!!) and back home for hot tub, a marvelous meatball dinner (thanks to a dear friend & her Nana’s secret recipe. My foodie hubby is ready to marry off one of our boys to get it!😄) & movie. Wrapping up the day (with a bow 💝)and hitting the pillow!
...still working on getting pictures to post🙃
