Not something you typically celebrate but a party we had! I decided to embrace losing my hair and have fun with it. Like my hubby always says “if you’re not having fun, it’s your own fault.” Ive always said “ my man knows what to take seriously (in life and in the Lord) and knows how to (seriously!) enjoy the rest”...and help everyone else around him enjoy it too! We’ve been married now just over 20 years, so I guess I’ve adopted some of his philosophies🤓. As I said, we had the family pictures Monday of this week and there really was not much left after the propped up, sprayed, fragile follicles were washed and combed...but I was determined to make it till Thursday when my sisters flew in from Denver and Atlanta! The party couldn’t go on without them! They’ve been my best friends and partners in crime from when I was bald at the beginning! Thank goodness for hats that made that possible! I just hid and ignored it. Ignorance was bliss until I took it off to go in the pool with Brody...not a pretty sight. When I got out of the water, I saw another third of my hair floating on top!🙈 my bald spots were growing! Louie, my youngest, sweetly asked “mom, can you like maybe wear something on your head all the time, not just when you’re outside but inside too. It’s kind of freaking me out.” Ah, his tender honesty. It’s gotta be weird, hard, even a little scary to see your healthy, energetic, full of life mom going bald! I obliged 🥰
I picked up Bekah, my younger sister, from Ontario Airport at 8:30am. My older sister, Amy, didn’t arrive into LAX till 12:30 so we had a little time to waste. Dear friends who live in Ontario area were vacationing at the beach in Huntington so we headed west to say hi and walk the pier and boardwalk. Perfect timing to head up to the City of Angels and complete our treasured trio (one of my mom’s favorite terms for us😄). We were home long enough for them to give hugs and hellos to their nephews and bro-in-law and it was time for the “big reveal”. I gotta admit, I was a little scared to see the reality of what was under the hat! But no reason to fear, whatever was there, wasn’t going to be for long! ...when I pulled my little beanie hat off, it felt like the overlooked turkey in Christmas Vacation movie-when they cut into it and it just burst open smoking 😳...then A & B went to town armed with the clippers! And within minutes I went from untamed, unconnected hair all over the place, to a trash-full of hair and buzz-cut on my head! I gotta say, it really was so freeing! It felt great!
As a friend so aptly said, when it was thinning, falling out and balding, it showed sickness....But when it was cleanly shaved, it showed strength! Love that!
“ I’m gonna shave that hair right off of my head!”🎼
And it couldn’t easier to do and maintain! Soap & go!
NO BAD HAIR DAYS!
Pictures coming soon...they won’t upload right now 🤪
Sara, a friend of mine had a beautiful tattoo on her shaved head. Roses, lots of them. Now they are hidden by hair that returned. It made her feel good .
