I delayed in getting this out as I can’t find my notes in the “safe place” I tucked them after the service Sunday so I wouldn’t lose them...but I hid them on myself!🙈 so I’m using my sweet hubby’s notes instead to recap after a great discussion at our Home Fellowship Group Monday night! And I’ve been having issues with my iPad so some posts are incomplete or off but dong my best🤓

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Wrapping up our summer study of the Fruit of the Spirit with the closer...Self-control!
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Romans 6:12-14
1. Reengage in the Battle
He used the analogy of having multiple unruly, untrained dogs on leashes that you’re trying to control, get to obey your commands and submit to your authority like a reborn, regenerate spirits trying to control our sinful, fallen flesh, like our tongues that can be vicious ...it’s a battle! We need to recognize it as such
How do we deal? Start fresh...
A. Confess- agree with God about where my thoughts and actions don’t line up with His Word &ways
B. Repent- resolve to change, do whatever it takes, work hard, get callouses (like from the leashes trying to reign in and control in dogs🐶)
“In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood....For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”” Hebrews 12:4, 6
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,...knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” 1 Peter 1:14-15, 18-19
2. Get the Physical to Yield to the Spiritual
Make my body my slave, train it for godliness...like with fasting, practice saying no to the flesh for a time so it knows who is in charge, even with something good & acceptance like eating as the Jews did on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
“‘All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful...I will not be dominated by anything.” 1 Corinthians 6:12
3. Beg God for Strength
We are given strength when we wait on God, humbly asking for it. We spend hours in the gym to get physically strong or on the court or field to practice and perfect athletic skills but are we willing to spend an hour in fervent prayer, specifically praying for things that need changing? One has a temporal value, the other eternal, honoring the God that made and saved us!
How Satan loves to “stir up our dogs” to get them off track. If we don’t have a tight hold on the leashes to reign them in and obey our commands, we’re in trouble. We have totally experienced that with our dogs. We have worked hard to train them well with instruction & discipline so we can enjoy them...and even walk them off leash😄
“Rather train yourself for godliness for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:7b-8
