Hola from Mexico!! Yes, our family is celebrating this wonderful holiday in a non-traditional way...as probably most are this year. Quite fitting for 2020. One of the many things we’re thankful for this year is that my dear hard-working hubby has work to provide for our family. Since he’s the CEO & founder of Dave Financial Mortgage Corporation, he didn’t get fired 😄. And not only did he keep his job, he’s been gainfully employed. With rates at all time lows, he’s been busier than ever. I guess we’ve all been busy & otherwise occupied in ways we didn’t expect this year...in some good & some not so good ways. Some of the good ways has been sweet visits from & to beloved family & friends! But Dave hasn’t been a part of the “to” trips so with this national holiday it was thankful time for him to get a break & a chance to get away! He chose Cabo San Lucas thinking Mexico would be more relaxed and “open” than its northern neighbor (which hasn’t totally been the case, probably bc of all the tourists 🌎 , but not as bad as our home state of California, where our governor basically shut down the communal giving of gratitude). We had “Thanksgiving dinner” at The Office, a popular well-known restaurant right on the beach! We walked up from the water & were served in our suits! We had a sweet time sharing the many things we are so thankful to the Lord for, both this year & always, over calamari, enchiladas & guac! It’s been great enjoying time together connecting & having fun!! Even though we’re around each other so much at home (as Dave works from home, boys are schooling from home & I’m there more than usual playing teacher’s aide & resting like a good patient😷), at church (as we all go together on Sundays, Wednesdays & anytime there’s an event since D&I serve in the high school ministry), etc. it’s not the same as there’s always lots going on, lots to be done,& always lots of friends around too (which we love!)- all things that are on our “thankful” list but it’s been so sweet being just the 5 of us.
As great as it’s been, it has been different since I’m limited in my activities...as much as I’d like to push through, take my chances & do it all! “Just use common sense,” my plastic surgeon told me. Well he obviously doesn’t know me very well so my husband asked for clear guidelines. Since I’m just a few weeks post-op & a week since my drains were pulled (leaving open wounds that need to heal), my doctor & my chiropractor (a dear friend too!) specifically told me no going in the water, limited range of motion in my arms & no carrying more than 5 pounds....so we signed up for a family ATV tour! Until Mr. Nick (a chiropractor with 40+ years of experience & an amazing understanding of how the human body works!) said “what?! The fact that you even thought you could do that!” So we cancelled my ticket to ride and I’ve been behaving...well. Not like the join-in every-activity, fun-loving boy mom that I usually am. God is growing me & showing me how to wait well! More on that in a later post
It’s given me so much to be thankful for...
-this situation isn’t permanent PTL. Relying on Him for patience, I have an opportunity to produce the fruit of His Spirit in my life and I’ll be back at it soon enough, healed & healthy!
-I’ve witnessed God working in my boys as they have been so caring & compassionate...constantly offering to help out, carry my stuff, pull their weight, be tender & loving!
-it’s given them an appreciation of the mom I normally am with them
-it’s given me a great analogy to remind myself that I’m living each day in light of & for eternity! It’s not worth compromising now what it’ll be me forever
-praise God He has new perfect bodies awaiting His adopted kids in the perfect new world He’s creating for us!
-the best gifts God has given us here on earth is each other, family & friends! So grateful to God for all the amazing people He’s put in my life! I have been beyond blessed!
-“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” 2 Cor. 9:15
🍁HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Y’ALL!!🍁
