Crossing the finish line!

Well the 6 1/2 week radiation race & 10 month cancer marathon is complete! (Just hormone therapy, 5-10 years of it!, & reconstructive surgery in a couple months left in the treatment plan!) Amen! Praise the Lord for getting me through it with a plethora of His perfect (perplexing) peace, protection & presence bringing purpose & personal progress (aka spiritual growth) through it all! Hallelujah!!

My skin is healing up great! I saw my radiation oncologist on Tuesday after my second to last treatment. She said “it’s perfect. I want to see something to know it’s working.  It’s pink but not red & angry.” Especially for areas of my fair Dutch skin that’s never seen the sun! And the open raw areas are healing up beautifully! God has been so gracious! I just have this weird stinging tightness in that breast (even though there’s still not much normal  sensation) as the skin gets “shrink-wrapped” & burned with the radiation

I saw my regular oncologist Tuesday as well & he prescribed Tamoxifen, a cancer drug I’m supposed to take for 5-10 years to basically suppress my hormones and decrease my changes of reoccurrence. He said to start it in the next month or so (praying about whether to or not...I really don’t want one more drug in my body🥺)

I read this poem in a great devotional a dear friend gave me, Streams in the Desert, that says it well...

Chance has not brought this ill to me.                             It’s Gods own hand, so let it be.                                      For He sees what I cannot see.                                     There is a purpose for each pain.                                   And He one day will make it plain                               That earthly loss is heavenly gain.                                Like as a piece of tapestry                                         Viewed from the back appears to be                            Only threads tangled hopelessly;                                    But in the front a picture fair                                  Rewards the worker for his care,                             Proving his rare skill and patience rare.                         You are the Workman, I the frame                               Lord, for the glory of Your name                              Perfect Your image on the same.

God is Good!

Well I’m finally back. I have written SO many mental posts with updates and what’s God been teaching me!! Then when I finally get a minute to actually take them out of my mind and onto the screen, my mind bottlenecks and gets overwhelmed with all I want & need to write...it exhausts me & I end up concluding that I’m too tired and don’t have time to transcribe all that’s in my mind onto digital paper. But as I sit here alone at the Denver airport on a long layover en route to Atlanta to celebrate my sisters 50th, I’m starting! We both have September birthdays, hers being on the 10th. We decided to save the celebrating til my chemo was complete, hence the delayed timing of the trip. My younger sister who lives here in Colorado is on her way to meet me and we’ll fly this leg if the trip together! And my parents are traveling from Michigan to meet us as well! How crazy (& sad!) that we are all spread out across the country, coast to coast, north to south- we are so close r...

Song in my Soul

Song in my Soul by Phil Wickham A dear friend sent this to me with her daily encouragement & prayer...I loved it from the first time I heard it! I hope you will too! There's a song in my soul ( how music goes deep into the core of who we are!) And I feel it stirring in me ( springing up from the well of His Word to satisfy the thirsty, he who drinks the Living Water will never thirst again!) This I know for sure ( faith is the assurance of what we know but don’t see) That Your love is like a flood ( washing & washing over me ! And Your mercy never ending ( “ The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-23‬)  I give my song to You ( “ Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants...Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastl...
