God Who Listens. By Chris Tomlin & Thomas Rhett
Another new one I heard & instantly loved! I thought about doing another one of the great contemporary Christian artist’s songs (like Jesus, How can I keep from Singing, or Whom Shall I fear...all great! And ones I’ll probably do in the future!) but I heard this one today in the car driving home from my treatment with Thomas Rhett’s crooning country voice and decided to do this one!
What a sweet truth to hold on to that the One who holds it all is holding me & hears the cries of my heart!
“Oh, oh, oh, oh
The God who made the winters and the summers (He is the Creator & Sustainer of every season of life...the new growth of spring that comes with rain, the freedom & fun of summer when the heat turns up, the crisp chill & coziness of fall when things get dry, and the white whimsical wonderland of winter (except in CA...I miss that here!) when it gets cold, things rest & even die)
The One who put the stars all in their place (the full expanse of them we can’t see, comprehend or number! But HE knows each one by name & has set it in its perfect place in the galaxies Psalm 147:4 & each one gives its Creator the praise due His name! Psalm 148:3)
The only One who stands above all others (John 3:31, Psalm 113:4)
He knows me by name (Before I even was! Psalm 139)
The angels hide their faces in His presence (they fall prostrate & bow down seeing Him for who He is, in His full weight of glory & holiness! Isaiah 6:3)
The demons run for cover when You speak (bc they too know who You are...& shutter! James 2:19)
You rule the world and reign above the heavens (🎶He’s got the whole world in His hands 🎶 “The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.” Psalms 103:19
And still draw close to me (“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8 how precious it is to be in & purified by Your presence!)
And when I close my eyes (so the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory & grace!)
I know that (with a confident assurance beyond a shadow of a doubt that brings joy, trust & strength!)
I'm not just hopin', I'm not just wishin'' (as Christians we know our faith is the assurance of things He’s promised that we hoped for & know will come to fruition. Hebrews 11:1)
I know I'm prayin' to a God who listens (Amen! Hallelujah! Like a loving Father leaning down to give full attention to His beloved children. You’re quick to listen, may I be quick to bring my prayers & praises to the all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving Giver of all! because...)
I know He hears me, I know He's livin'(& wanting to hear from me, able to answer according to His good, pleasing & perfect will! Not my will, but Yours be done! Conform my will to Yours!
Yes, I am prayin' to a God who listens
He walks with me and leads me by still waters (even on the water He walks & calms raging seas to glass with a word. He is the Good Shepherd caring for the needs of His sheep. Psalm 23. May I always thirst for more of You, knowing You alone satisfy! “If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25 His Spirit leads & gives us life!
I lay my troubles down at His feet (“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” Psalms 68:19 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalms 55:22 ...bc He cares! 1 Peter 5:7)
It's amazing that the Savior and the Father He is a friend to me (& demonstrated it with His life & death! “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”John 15:13
How can it be, oh? (The amazing truth of His amazing grace!)
I'm not just hopin', I'm not just wishin
I know I'm prayin' to a God who listens (“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.” Psalms 116:1
I know He hears me, I know He's livin'
Yes, I am prayin' to a God who listens
Your God who listens
Who knows me (“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Psalms 139:1-4
Who never will fail me (“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23)
Who tells me that I am His own
And You surround me, remind me (“Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” Psalms 5:12
You always are for me (If God is for me, who in the world- literally!- can be against me that has any real power to do anything to me that He doesn’t allow? Whom shall I fear? Only the one Who has power over my body & soul, fear with awe, admiration and appreciation that He uses His power & might ultimately for my good & His glory! He fights for & equips me!)
So I come boldly to Your throne (“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16)
I'm not just hopin', I'm not just wishin'
Yes, I am prayin' to a God who listens
Oh, Lord a promise, that we've been given (“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
Joshua 21:45)
Yes, we are prayin' to a God who listens
Yes, You are, yes You are
